I wanted to write a post telling you all about the songs I’ve been listening to this week – my “power songs,” as it were. I was going to just list them for you here, and then I thought, what’s the point in that? Everyone will have to look the songs up themselves.
Then I had a brainwave.
So as a result, I now have a Youtube channel. The playlists I’m going to talk about in a minute are there, and then I can also post workout videos that I like and whatnot.
The first one I want to share is what I call my “Sad Panda” mix. Sometimes, when I’m really feeling depressed, as I was last week, I don’t want to listen to anything upbeat or even angry in tone. I just want to wallow. It’s like when you have a song stuck in your head, and you try and try to sing other songs to dislodge it, but nothing works. You just have to listen to that song over and over until you can’t stand it anymore (this is what happened to me when “Single Ladies” came out. Everyone I knew wanted to kill me because I listened to it on repeat about a million times).
This playlist is really depressing. It’s for extreme measures, when you need background music to cry it out.
Make sure you have a box of Kleenex nearby. “Silhouette” in particular is perhaps the best description of depression I’ve ever heard in a song/poem/anything.
The other playlist is for when you’re depressed, angry, and it seems like the entire universe is conspiring against you. It’s one of those days – or weeks – where nothing is going right and you feel like nothing will ever be right again. But instead of wallowing, you want to flip the universe the bird. I call it my “Screw You, Universe” mix.
These two playlists compose the soundtrack of my life for the last week. They are definitely power songs – emotional ones, anyway.
